    What is INTO?

    INTO is an international network of National Trusts and similar non governmental organisations, globally diverse but united by a shared commitment to conserving and sustaining our shared heritage – built and natural, tangible and intangible.

    Our mission is to “promote the conservation and enhancement of the heritage of all nations for the benefit of the people of the world and future generations”.

    We apologise that so much of our website is in English, but do hope to be able to provide more information in other languages shortly. Brief summaries follow:

  • INTO, as an international organisation with a worldwide membership, is uniquely positioned to:

  • provide fora and a communication network to enable conservation specialists from National Trusts and like organisations around the world to share experience and good practice and develop collective strategies
  • offer an expert network and knowledge bank on a wide variety of heritage issues
  • respond to the needs of heritage conservation organisations and communities by helping to establish National Trusts and like minded heritage organisations, and building the capacity of existing ones
  • facilitate the training of heritage professionals through a series of programmes
  • promote the need for risk preparedness plans in areas of potential conflict or natural disasters
  • demonstrate to national governments and global institutions the value, viability and wider benefits of heritage conservation and the National Trust model
  • advance intercultural understanding, dialogue and cohesion, and support the development of civil society
  • initiate dialogue between regions of the world to ensure the safeguarding of the intangible heritage particularly in the developing world
